WHAT HAPPENED
On 26 August, Education Minister Dr Tunji Alausa unveiled the Tertiary Institutions National Laureate Prize, with an annual prize pool of about N365 million for outstanding undergraduate dissertations, Master’s theses and doctoral research.

On 26 August, ActionAid Nigeria, through Country Director Dr Andrew Mamedu, condemned remarks attributed to Kuje Area Council Chairman Danjuma Shekwolo, reportedly telling residents to support the APC or leave the council. Shekwolo has said the remarks were made at an APC gathering and were taken out of context.

WHAT HAPPENED
On 24 August, ActionAid Nigeria and CSOnetMADE began a five day Abuja training under the GIZ supported RECONNECT Project. The programme focuses on psychosocial support, case management and sustainable reintegration for people affected by violence, displacement and migration.
WHY IT MATTERS
Reintegration programmes are increasingly recognising that returning home requires more than economic assistance. Trauma, stigma, family relationships and community acceptance also matter.

CSOs PETITION NHRC OVER WAWA DETENTION CLAIMS

On 24 August, a coalition including RULAAC and FENRAD petitioned the National Human Rights Commission over allegations of prolonged civilian detention at Wawa Military Barracks and concerns about unidentified bodies in Imo State.
