The event, scheduled for November 19-21, 2025, seeks to enhance accessibility and broaden participation in what has become the continent’s leading platform for women’s policy dialogue and partnership building.

This year’s conference carries the theme “Legacy Meets Innovation: Women Forging New Pathways for Africa’s Sustainable Development,” and reflects the dual imperative of honouring past achievements while embracing transformative approaches to continental challenges.

The high-level gathering will provide a dynamic platform for knowledge exchange, featuring keynote addresses, plenary sessions, and strategic roundtables designed to strengthen women’s participation in governance, innovation, and economic empowerment across African nations.

Ghana’s selection as host reflects deliberate consultation with partners, delegates, and regional coordinators throughout Africa, according to the co-covener, Dr Jumai Ahmadu. “The shift is not a deviation but a strategic step to enhance accessibility, inclusiveness, and participation—core values on which AWC was founded,” she explained, noting the change from the originally planned South Africa venue.

Ghana joins a distinguished roster of host nations, including Namibia, Morocco, Rwanda, the Gambia, Ethiopia, and Zambia, with Nigeria expected to assume hosting duties for the 10th edition in 2026.

This year’s conference agenda prioritises four critical development areas: digital inclusion, climate resilience, leadership mentoring, and financing for women-led enterprises. These thematic focus areas align with pressing challenges shaping Africa’s development trajectory and requiring gender-responsive policy interventions.

The gathering will attract an impressive array of distinguished personalities, including First Ladies from multiple African nations, government ministers, parliamentarians, heads of international organisations, civil society leaders, and prominent women entrepreneurs, creating opportunities for cross-sectoral collaboration and partnership formation.

A key deliverable from the three-day conference will be a Joint Communiqué and Action Framework designed to guide national and regional policies toward deepening gender inclusion and implementing institutional reforms that uplift women and girls throughout Africa. These outputs are expected to influence policy directions across participating countries.

Since its inception, the African Women Conference has evolved into a critical rallying point where African women share experiences, strengthen continental solidarity, and develop actionable strategies toward achieving both the African Union‘s Agenda 2063 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those relating to gender equality and women’s empowerment.

The conference’s focus on bridging legacy and innovation recognises that advancing women’s rights and opportunities requires both honouring traditional advocacy approaches while embracing new technologies, methodologies, and partnerships that can accelerate progress toward gender parity in political, economic, and social spheres.

The AWC platform provides essential space for women leaders to develop concrete agendas and viable pathways for stakeholders to direct resources toward African women, driving sustainable development across the continent.
