The management of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo (FUHSO) has drawn a line in the sand for contractors delaying critical infrastructure at its Akwete-Akpa permanent site, warning that further delays or excuses will no longer be tolerated. The stern warning was issued on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, when the FUHSO Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francis Aba Uba, led the university’s Governing Council on a rigorous, first-hand inspection tour of ongoing legacy projects.

While the tour was largely a showcase of impressive infrastructural milestones, the mood shifted when the delegation arrived at the building designated for the Departments of Microbiology and Physics. Expressing deep concern over the sluggish pace of work, Prof. Uba and the Governing Council, led by Chairman Prof. Muhammed Salihu, ordered the handling contractor to immediately accelerate construction to ensure the university’s academic timeline is not compromised.

A Tale of Two Sites: The Medical Complex Marvel

In stark contrast to the delays plaguing the science departments, the inspection team met with a pleasant surprise at the massive College of Medicine Complex. The council members expressed immense satisfaction with what is already being hailed as one of the finest medical college structures in Nigeria. The complex stands out not just for its sprawling size, but for its modern aesthetics, premium architectural standard, and the rapid pace at which the work has progressed.

Once fully completed, this flagship facility is expected to transform the institution’s operational capacity by completely resolving the university’s immediate office accommodation deficits for staff.

Furthermore, it will house state-of-the-art lecture theatres designed to foster top-tier collaboration, alongside modern laboratories engineered to deliver the cutting-edge research, teaching, and medical breakthroughs that the contemporary healthcare sector demands.

“This inspection tour underscores our unwavering commitment to providing world-class infrastructure,” said the university management. “We are building a foundation that will support academic excellence, cutting-edge research, and quality healthcare training to position FUHSO as Nigeria’s leading medical institution.”

According to the statement posted on Facebook by the Information, Public Relations and Protocol Unit of FUHSO, the Chairman of the Governing Council, Prof. Muhammed Salihu, commended the Vice-Chancellor’s leadership for maintaining high standards across the majority of the construction sites. He reinforced that the Council will continue to provide the strict oversight needed to ensure FUHSO becomes a pride of both the region and the nation.
