37 DETAINEES DIE IN NSCDC CUSTODY

WHAT: Thirty-seven people detained during anti-illegal-mining operations in Minna, Niger State, died in NSCDC custody. WHO: The Federal Government has suspended the Niger State NSCDC Commandant and constituted a 10-member committee to investigate. WHEN: The deaths occurred after operations on September 15–16, 2026. WHO: UN Women Executive Director Sima Bahous called for greater access to political and economic power for women.
