A new creative gathering, Poetry, Play & Party (PPP), is set to bring together poetry, theatre, music, and nightlife to create a new kind of cultural experience for young creatives and audiences in Abuja.
The event, scheduled to be held at Whispers Art House, was conceived by Musa Mc Yunus, Project/Lead Curator, PPP, who said the idea was inspired by the limited spaces where different forms of art can be experienced together.
“There are so many talented young creatives in Abuja, but the spaces where they can experience different forms of art together are still quite limited,” Yunus said.
According to him, PPP seeks to bridge the gap between creative disciplines that are often presented separately.
“Poetry is expression. Play is imagination. Party is celebration. And I don’t think they should exist in isolation,” he said.
The event will feature poetry and theatre performances before transitioning into a party, with organisers hoping the experience will encourage audiences to discover new artists and build new connections.
Yunus said the event is designed to be more than entertainment, stressing that it also aims to create opportunities for emerging creatives.
“Creative careers are not built by talent alone. You need community, opportunities, collaboration, audiences and people who believe in what you’re doing,” he said.
He added that PPP could provide a meeting point for creatives across different fields.
“A poet can meet a filmmaker. A theatre performer can meet a photographer. A musician can meet a brand.”
One of the key creative works at the event is the stage play Area 11, which Yunus said draws from his experience as a young poet and art enthusiast in Minna.
“When I scripted that play, all I thought of was my little struggle in Minna as a young poet and a budding art enthusiast,” he said, describing the production as a reflection of the struggles creatives face.

Despite challenges in securing support for the event—including, according to Yunus, more than 50 unanswered emails to brands—the organisers remain determined to stage the programme.
“One thing we’ve resolved as a team is that IT MUST HAPPEN,” he said.
Yunus is also encouraging audiences to experience the event physically rather than hear about it afterwards.
“You can watch content online, but you can’t recreate the energy of an audience reacting together, the silence before a performance, the laughter in the room, or the feeling when the music comes on and everybody just lets go,” he said.
He described PPP as an attempt to create a space where “different forms of creativity can coexist” and where audiences can leave with their own stories.
