The conversation around Nigeria’s 2027 elections is set to extend beyond political parties and electoral officials as major public and private sector organisations join the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) for its 10th annual conference in Lagos.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG), Nigeria Customs Service and Dangote Group are among the organisations supporting the conference, which will focus on the relationship between public trust, transparency and the responsibilities of different stakeholders in the electoral process.
The conference is scheduled for October 8, 2026, at the Radisson Blu Hotel, 38–40 Isaac John Street, Ikeja GRA, Lagos.
GOCOP Publicity Secretary, Kemi Yesufu, announced the list of partners in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday.

Businesses Join 2027 Election Conversation
The choice of partners gives the conference a broader institutional character, bringing organisations from sectors such as energy, customs, finance, communications, education, regulation and manufacturing into a discussion largely centred on elections.
Other public sector organisations supporting the event include the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Bank of Industry (BoI), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
Private-sector organisations listed as supporters include TAJBank, Emadeb Energy, Setraco Limited, Sovereign Trust Insurance and Nestlé Nigeria Plc.
For GOCOP, the involvement of these organisations comes as the media prepares for an increasingly active political environment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Guild says the conference will examine the responsibilities of electoral institutions, political actors, security agencies, the media, civil society and citizens in strengthening confidence in the electoral process.
INEC Chairman Set To Lead 2027 Election Discussion
The conference will be themed “2027 Elections: Trust, Transparency and Shared Responsibilities.”
Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, is scheduled to deliver the keynote address.
The conference will be chaired by Dr Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, founding partner of Olisa Agbakoba Legal and a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association.
Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan’s participation places the electoral management body at the centre of discussions about preparations for 2027, while the presence of media, civil society and security stakeholders is expected to broaden the conversation around the roles each group plays in the electoral process.
Media Role Comes Into Focus Ahead Of 2027 Elections
Four panellists are expected to examine the conference theme from different perspectives.
They are CP Abayomi Shogunle, Commissioner of Police, Election Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Force Headquarters, Abuja; Professor Tayo Popoola, Head of the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Lagos; Adaora Onyechere Sydney-Jack, Creative Director of Gender Agenda and Founder of WEWE Network Afrique; and Lanre Arogundade, Executive Director of the International Press Centre.
Their backgrounds cover election security, journalism and media education, gender and civic engagement, as well as media development.
That mix reflects one of the central questions surrounding the 2027 elections: how electoral institutions, security agencies, political actors, journalists, civil society organisations and voters can contribute to an environment where citizens have access to credible information and can participate in the process.
GOCOP Marks 10 Years of Annual Conferences
The 2026 gathering will mark the 10th edition of GOCOP’s annual conference.
Deputy President of GOCOP and Chairman of the Conference Planning Committee, Olumide Iyanda, thanked the organisations supporting the event.

GOCOP describes itself as a business membership organisation comprising 127 online publications in Nigeria. The Guild represents digital media entrepreneurs and promotes professional and ethical standards in online publishing while advocating for the sustainability and credibility of digital journalism.
Looking Ahead To The 2027 Elections
With political activity expected to intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, the conference places the media’s role alongside that of institutions, security agencies, civil society and citizens.
For online publishers in particular, the discussions are expected to touch on the responsibility to provide accurate and credible information as Nigerians increasingly rely on digital platforms for news and public affairs.
The October 8 conference will therefore bring together stakeholders from different sectors to examine what each can contribute to public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
