ABIA/ENUGU, October 10, 2026 — What if a simple health lesson could give a girl the confidence to protect her body, speak up against abuse and pursue her biggest dreams? That is the inspiring opportunity the US-based Quantus Medical Foundation is creating for 600 students across Abia and Enugu states through a special health outreach marking the 2026 International Day of the Girl Child.
Founded and facilitated by Nigerian-born physician Dr. Nnenna Ihekoromadu, the initiative combines practical health education, personal hygiene kits and guidance on self-confidence, personal safety and access to healthcare to help girls make informed decisions about their health and future.

The programme began on Friday, October 9, at Abayi Girls Secondary School in Aba, Abia State, with further sessions scheduled for Monday, October 12, at Afugiri Girls Secondary School in Umuahia and Idaw River Girls Secondary School in Enugu, Enugu State.
Organised around the theme, “Healthy Girls. Informed Choices. Stronger Futures,” the outreach seeks to help students understand their bodies, recognise health concerns, ask questions and know when and where to seek professional assistance.
At the Aba event, Chief Medical Director of Aba General Hospital, Dr. Amaka Kamalu, encouraged the girls to embrace cleanliness, dignity and confidence, reminding them that personal grooming does not depend on expensive clothes or family wealth.
She also cautioned the students against skin-bleaching creams and harmful social media influences, urging them to believe in their abilities and remain focused on their ambitions.
“You are a girl-child today, but tomorrow you will be a woman, a leader, an innovator and a nation builder,” Kamalu told the students.
For those aspiring to become medical professionals, she stressed the importance of excelling in science subjects, preparing for relevant examinations, including the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination, and maintaining discipline.
Delivering the keynote lecture on behalf of the foundation’s founder, Dr. Uzo Oguine urged the girls to prioritise their health and speak out whenever they experience health challenges or abuse.
Oguine explained that the foundation’s presence at Aba General Hospital, Abia State University Teaching Hospital and Abia Specialist Hospital in Umuahia provides access to Patient Liaison Officers who can help patients navigate hospital services and connect with appropriate healthcare professionals.

She encouraged the students not to suffer in silence but to seek assistance from trusted adults and qualified health workers, emphasising that good health is essential to achieving their educational and professional goals.
The outreach builds on the foundation’s collaboration with the Abia State Government through the Abia Healthcare Rebirth Initiative, which supports hospital teams and promotes compassion, accountability, respect and excellence in patient care.
Team Lead of Patient Liaison Officers in Abia State, Egbe Bernard Esang, expressed optimism that the lessons would extend beyond the classrooms into the students’ homes and communities.
The school’s Dean of Studies, Mrs. Chika Ezissi, thanked the foundation for selecting the institution and encouraged the girls to share their new knowledge with others.
Speaking for the students, Senior Prefect John Golden Chiamaka expressed appreciation for the opportunity to learn about health, confidence and personal development. He noted that achieving one’s ambitions requires understanding, self-belief and hard work rather than wealth or luxury.
As the programme moves to Umuahia and Enugu, the initiative offers an encouraging reminder that investing in girls’ health and knowledge can help them become more confident, informed and prepared to shape their own futures.
