The National Association of Akweya Students (NAAS) has expanded its presence with the inauguration of a new chapter at the Federal University of Health Sciences, Akwete, Otukpo (FUHSO), on Thursday, 2nd July 2026. The inauguration marks another step by the leadership in efforts to unite Akweya students across tertiary institutions.
The inauguration took place during the association’s first physical meeting at the university. Although attendance was modest, organisers said it reflected the fact that efforts are still ongoing to identify and connect all Akweya students studying at the institution.

Speaking to AkweyaTV after the meeting, NAAS National President, Nathaniel Odah, described the inauguration as a significant milestone for the association.
Odah said the new chapter would serve as a platform for strengthening unity among Akweya students.
For the interim leadership, Abah Godfrey, a Biostatistics student, was appointed President, while Ogwiji Ochanya Cecilia, a Biochemistry student, will serve as the Oyo, or leader of the women. According to the association, elections for other executive positions will be conducted after students conclude their examinations.
Odah said the new chapter would serve as a platform for strengthening unity among Akweya students and increasing their participation in national activities of the association.
He told AkweyaTV that his vision for NAAS as a body is “to strengthen unity among all Akweya students in every chapter, promote academic excellence, encourage entrepreneurship and skill acquisition, and also educate members about the importance of unionism and the cultural heritage of Akweya.”
He added that he believes the association “can become a stronger and more influential body that effectively represents the interests of all Akweya students and contributes meaningfully to the development of Akweya land.”

The FUHSO inauguration came shortly after Odah visited the NAAS chapter at Benue State Polytechnic (BENPOLY), where he met members to encourage renewed participation in national activities. He said previous misunderstandings had affected the chapter’s involvement, but discussions with members resulted in a commitment to re-engage fully with the national association.
The establishment of the FUHSO chapter is expected to provide a stronger network for Akweya students in the university while deepening collaboration with other NAAS chapters across Nigeria.
