A major milestone has been recorded in preparations for the October 17, 2026, Kogi State Local Government Elections, following the delivery of sensitive election materials to the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC).
The development highlights the Commission’s ongoing efforts to prepare for voting across all 21 Local Government Areas, 239 electoral wards and 3,508 polling units in the state, bringing the upcoming election into sharper focus as Election Day approaches.

KOSIEC Chairman, Hon. Mamman Nda Eri, reaffirmed the Commission’s determination to deliver peaceful, credible, transparent and inclusive elections that reflect the genuine wishes of the electorate.

He explained that receiving the sensitive materials was an important part of ensuring that essential arrangements were completed before voters head to the polls on Saturday.
“The arrival of these sensitive materials is another clear indication that KOSIEC is prepared for the task ahead,” Eri said, reiterating the Commission’s commitment to an electoral process that is peaceful, transparent, credible and acceptable to the people of Kogi State.
Beyond logistical preparations, the Commission emphasised its commitment to fairness, impartiality and professionalism in managing the election. The assurance is directed at political parties, candidates and voters as they prepare to participate in the democratic exercise.

Eri called on eligible voters throughout Kogi State to come out peacefully on Saturday, October 17, and exercise their democratic rights. He also encouraged political actors, community stakeholders and other participants to cooperate with the Commission and security agencies to ensure a safe and orderly election.

The delivery of sensitive election materials is an important preparatory development, although the final conduct and credibility of the polls will depend on how effectively the entire electoral process is implemented on Election Day.

For communities across Kogi State, the forthcoming local government elections provide an opportunity to participate in choosing grassroots leadership. KOSIEC says it remains committed to strengthening democracy at this level through peaceful, credible and transparent voting.
As the countdown to Saturday continues, cooperation among electoral officials, security agencies, political parties and voters will be essential to maintaining peace and supporting public confidence in the process.
