Alia Set to Make History by Swearing-In Oglegba As Commissioner

Hon. Michael Oglegba is the first Akweya to assume the esteemed role of commissioner

The Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, is poised to make history as he administers the oath of office to a new cohort of Commissioners and Special Advisers on Tuesday, August 29, 2023. The announcement was conveyed through an official communiqué issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor.

The grand swearing-in ceremony is slated to unfold at the prestigious New Banquet Hall within the Government House in Makurdi, Benue State. The event is set to commence promptly at 10:00 a.m.

Notable personalities to be sworn in as commissioners include:

Hon. Barr. Omale Omale – Apa
Hon. Dr. Yanmar M. Ortese – Guma
Rev. Dr. Frederick Ikyaan – Gwer-West
Hon. Ugwu Odoh – Ogbadibo
Hon. Kwaghba Amande –  Katsina-Ala
Matthew Aboh – Ukum
Hon. Tiza Imojime – Buruku
Hon. Aondowase Kunde – Konshisha
Hon. Prof. Jonah Ogbaji – Oju
Barr. Martin Shaager – Ushongo
Hon. Michael Oglegba – Otukpo
Hon. Ann Itodo – Okpokwu
Hon. Barr. Fidelis Mnyim – Makurdi
Rt. Hon. Terkimbi Ikyange – Ushongo
Rt. Hon. Nick Oworo – Obi

Attendance at this event is strictly by invitation, and each nominee taking the oath is entitled to invite a maximum of two guests to share in this momentous occasion.

Of notable significance is the appointment of Hon. Michael Oglegba, a trailblazing milestone as he becomes the first Akweya to assume the esteemed role of commissioner.

Recall that the Benue State House of Assembly meticulously reviewed the list of 17 commissioner nominees submitted by Governor Hyacinth Alia. The thorough screening process, which commenced on August 10, 2023, successfully granted clearance to all 17 nominees.

In a bid to bolster the efficiency of governance, Governor Hyacinth Alia also granted his approval for the designation of 17 special advisers and 24 special assistants.

The impending swearing-in ceremony stands as a pivotal juncture for these newly appointed commissioners and special advisers. As they stand on the cusp of assuming their responsibilities, they are primed to serve the populace of Benue State and catalyse progress in the region.

(Hons) in Business Management from the Benue State University, Makurdi, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto. From 2018, he served as the Executive/Managing Editor of the Papyrus Monthly Magazine, in Abuja. He joined Akweya TV Limited in 2020 as the pioneer Programme Manager. He has been a pastoring in large congregations and lectures in about four campuses of the Dunamis School of Ministry (DUSOM). Idajor loves swimming, playing basketball, and meditating in natural environments like streams and gardens.
