Renowned Afrobeat artist David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, pledged a substantial sum of N300 million to support various orphanages across Nigeria. This announcement was made via his social media accounts on Tuesday, February 20.
“I and my foundation pledge the sum of 300 million Naira to orphanages around Nigeria … as my yearly contribution to the nation. Details of disbursement tomorrow,” the post read.
Sharing a screenshot of the transaction on his social media handle in the early hours of today, Davido provided tangible evidence of the donation showing payment evidence, stating, “Foundation account credited… More details to follow soon.”
The pledge, initiated through Davido’s Adeleke Foundation, comes at a crucial time amidst economic challenges in Nigeria, including escalating food and petrol prices.
Established in 2022 with the collaboration of other philanthropic organisations, the Adeleke Foundation aims to assist underprivileged children across the nation.
This latest donation adds to Davido’s track record of philanthropy. In the previous year, he disbursed N237 million to support numerous orphanages, and in October 2022, he donated N250 million to 292 orphanages across the country.
