The Esther Williams Foundation (EWF), a non-governmental organization focused on improving the lives of vulnerable children and underserved communities, has reached more than 1,130 students through its intervention programmes since its establishment in 2018.
The foundation, which focuses on education, children’s health, girl-child empowerment, protection, mentorship and community development, has also distributed more than 1,000 hygiene kits and provided food for over 500 people through its various outreach programmes.
Founder and Executive Director of EWF, Esther Williams, said the organization was inspired by her passion for children and her experience growing up watching her mother care for homeless and neglected children. She said the foundation had evolved from a personal passion into a mission-driven organization addressing challenges affecting vulnerable children, particularly girls.
One of its major initiatives, the Pad A Girl Outreach and Hygiene Education Programme, provides menstrual health education and sanitary products to schoolgirls. Williams said the programme had been implemented in schools including Oluwole Secondary School, Ejigbo, and Queen’s College, Yaba, with more than 1,000 sanitary pads distributed to students in the previous year.
Beyond providing sanitary products, the foundation offers educational support, counselling, mentorship, leadership training and health and wellbeing programmes. A student of Ikeja Senior High School, Blessing, described the hygiene education as transformative, saying it improved her confidence and helped her take better care of herself.

Williams said EWF measured its impact not only by the number of beneficiaries reached but also by the changes created in their lives. With over 20 volunteers and team members and more than 20 partners and supporters, the foundation is seeking stronger partnerships to expand its work across Nigeria and build sustainable systems that enable vulnerable children and communities to thrive.
