Segun Ogunwuyi, Chief of Staff to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, has resigned from his position, bringing his tenure in the state government to an end after more than five years in the role.
Segun Ogunwuyi communicated his decision in a resignation letter dated Monday, October 12, 2026, stating that his departure took immediate effect.
In the letter addressed to Seyi Makinde, he expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve the government and the people of Oyo State, describing his time in office as an honour.
“Serving the Government and the good people of Oyo State has been a great honour. It has been deeply fulfilling to be part of the exceptional team that has worked relentlessly to deliver the remarkable achievements of this administration,” he wrote.

The former Chief of Staff said he remained proud of the administration’s efforts to promote the state’s growth and development.
He also expressed confidence in Oyo State’s future, adding that his decision to leave office did not diminish his respect for the governor or his commitment to the state and Nigeria.
“Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurances of my highest esteem and unwavering loyalty to Oyo State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Segun Ogunwuyi stated.
Makinde Appoints Akinwole As Replacement
Following Segun Ogunwuyi’s resignation, Governor Seyi Makinde appointed Akinwale Akinwole, popularly known as Wolekanle, as the new Chief of Staff.

The appointment was announced in a letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Musibau Babatunde, and took immediate effect.
Akinwale Akinwole, a grassroots politician, previously served as chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Service Commission. His appointment is expected to ensure continuity in the coordination of the governor’s office and its administrative responsibilities.
The governor also approved the appointment of Aderonke Adedayo as Director-General of the Due Process Office. Aderonke Adedayo, who serves as Special Adviser on General Intervention and Donor Agencies, will combine the new responsibility with her existing role.
Segun Ogunwuyi’s Political Career
Before his appointment as Chief of Staff in July 2021, Segun Ogunwuyi held several positions in public service.

He served as a member of the Oyo State House of Assembly before representing Ogbomoso North, Ogbomoso South and Oriire Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives from 2015 to 2019.
In 2019, he was appointed Executive Assistant to the governor on Investment and later became Director-General of the Oyo State Investment and Public-Private Partnership Agency.
His work in the agency involved investment initiatives and public-private partnerships aimed at supporting infrastructure development in the state.
Segun Ogunwuyi’s resignation also comes amid reports of other political appointees leaving the Makinde administration in recent months. However, his resignation letter did not connect his decision to those departures or identify any disagreement with the governor.
His exit and the appointment of a successor mark another change in the administration as it continues its work in Oyo State.
