In what could signal a significant thaw in political relations within Otukpo/Akpa constituency and chances of Hyacinth Alia’s performance in the 2027 elections, former political rivals Hon. Kennedy Agbogo Angbo and Benue State Commissioner for Finance and Economic Planning, Hon. Michael Oglegba, have taken steps to mend their previously strained relationship.

Angbo disclosed this in a WhatsApp post on Wednesday, 9th September 2026, following a visit to Oglegba’s residence in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

The visit, according to Angbo, was aimed at “cementing cracked relationships” and fostering unity for the broader interest of the people.

Angbo said he was accompanied by elders from his council ward in Allan, including Chief Simon Anefu, Esq., Chief Oliver Adem and Eugene Oglegba, as well as Rt. Hon. Michael Audu, representing the Adoka/Ugboju State Constituency.

“The visit was to cement cracked relationships and to unite for the greatest good of our people,” Angbo stated.

He expressed appreciation to the Commissioner for Finance for receiving the delegation warmly.

“I want to thank the Honourable Commissioner of Finance for opening his doors and welcoming us with both hands,” he said.

The development is significant against the backdrop of political differences that have existed between the two Otukpo/Akpa political heavyweights, particularly over issues surrounding the National Food City Complex.

Second (from L-R) is Hon. Kennedy Angbo and Hon. Michael Oglegba, who holds the title of Ebo k’Idoma. Ebo means peace.

Although the two men have operated within the same broader political environment of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), their differences over the project and other political matters have at times created tensions within their political constituencies.

Wednesday’s meeting, however, appears to signal a willingness to put those differences behind them and pursue greater political understanding.

Anchoring his message on Christian faith, Angbo quoted the Bible: “When brothers are in unity, God commands His blessing.”

He concluded his message with prayers for Benue State and the Otukpo/Akpa constituency.

The reconciliation could have wider implications for political cohesion in the area, particularly as stakeholders continue to navigate competing interests and development priorities in Otukpo and the wider Benue political landscape. Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia has been criticised for being aloof when it comes to security and development in the Zone C area, but the establishment of the National Food City Complex in Akweya land at Ogyoma appears to be an attempt to mend fences and shore up his chances in the highly contested elections slated January 2027. The Governor and his erstwhile political godfather have been experiencing a frosty relationship, splitting the party all the way to the grassroots. Wednesday’s meeting might be a good signal of what is to come.

AkweyaTV will continue to monitor developments following the meeting.
