The Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) will hold its 45th International Convention and Conference from October 29 to November 1, 2026, at the Mamman Vatsa Writers’ Village, Maitama Extension, Mpape, Abuja.
The four-day event will bring together writers, poets, scholars and other stakeholders in the literary and creative sectors to discuss the role of literature in national development, security and Nigeria’s position in the global community.
According to a statement issued by ANA President, Dr Usman Oladipo Akanbi, and Acting General Secretary, Wole Adedoyin, the convention will provide a platform for intellectual discussions, literary performances and reflections on issues affecting Nigeria’s social and political development.
The conference is themed “Literature, National Security, and the Place of Nigeria in the World.”
The organisers said the theme would examine the relationship between literature, national identity, peace, security and Nigeria’s international image, while highlighting the role of writers in shaping public discourse and promoting cultural understanding.
Professor Mahfouz Adedimeji will deliver the keynote address, while Professor Bukar Usman will chair the opening ceremony. Dr Usman Oladipo Akanbi will serve as the chief host.

Activities will begin on Thursday, October 29, with the arrival and registration of participants, followed by the Festival of Life, featuring literary readings, spoken-word performances, songs and other artistic presentations.
The grand opening ceremony will hold on Friday, October 30. Other activities scheduled for the day include the launch of the Ken Saro-Wiwa Anthology, the Mbari Series Session and a convention play.
The anthology launch is expected to draw attention to the legacy of Ken Saro-Wiwa and his contributions to Nigerian literature.
On Saturday, October 31, members will hold the association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) to review its activities and discuss its future direction.
A panel discussion featuring DSP Zayd Ibn Isah, Dr Alexander Ochogwu Emmanuel and Toyin Adewale-Gabriel will also take place, with Odoh Diego Okenyodo serving as moderator. The discussion will focus on the convention’s central theme and the responsibilities of writers and intellectuals in addressing Nigeria’s challenges.
The day will end with an awards and dinner night to recognise literary achievements and celebrate contributions to Nigerian literature and the creative sector.
Participants are expected to depart on Sunday, November 1, after the conclusion of the convention.

The convention comes amid continuing national conversations about security, social cohesion, identity and Nigeria’s place in an increasingly interconnected world.
Through the gathering, ANA seeks to highlight how literature can encourage dialogue, preserve collective memory, question the use of power and promote engagement with issues affecting society.
The association also reiterated its commitment to promoting Nigerian literature, encouraging reading and writing, nurturing emerging literary talent and providing a platform for discussions on national development.
ANA has invited its members, writers, scholars, literary organisations, cultural institutions, media practitioners and the general public to participate in the convention.
