He assumed office on October 1, 2026, and will serve a five-year term ending in September 2031.

His appointment was ratified by the Council, WAEC’s international governing board, during its 74th Annual Meeting held in Accra, Ghana, in March 2026.

Born on October 2, 1967, Dr Amos Josiah Dangut has an academic background in agriculture and education. He holds a Bachelor of Agriculture in Animal Production, a Master of Science in Animal Science, a PhD in Animal Science and a Master of Education in Administration and Planning.

He began his career in education in 1994 at St Louis College, Jos, where he also worked as a WAEC examiner before joining the council in 1998.

Over the years, he has held several positions within WAEC, including Head of Examinations Security, Branch Controller in Yola, Controller of the Post-Examinations Department and Zonal Coordinator of the Ikeja Zonal Office.

He became Head of the Nigeria National Office in October 2023 and remained in the position until his elevation to the regional role.

Known For Technology Driven Reforms

WAEC described Dr Amos Josiah Dangut as an experienced test developer and administrator with expertise in examination management, security and the use of technology to improve the council’s operations.

Other initiatives under his leadership included the Digital Certificate Portal, WAEC E-Study Platform and Digital Records Archive.

The council said Amos Josiah Dangut had spent more than two decades using information and communications technology to strengthen test development, examination administration and post-examination activities.

His career has also earned him professional recognition, including commendation from the Nigeria Examinations Committee for his handling of examination matters between 2000 and 2006.

New Leadership For WAEC Nigeria Office

With Amos Josiah Dangut’s elevation, Suleiman Kum has been appointed Head of the Nigeria National Office.

Suleiman Kum, who previously served in the office of the Head of National Office, joined WAEC on July 17, 1998, as an Assistant Registrar II and rose through the ranks to become Senior Deputy Registrar in 2024.

He has also served as Zonal Coordinator in Port Harcourt and Ikeja, Director of Administration and Senior Deputy Registrar in charge of Test Administration.

WAEC described him as an experienced test developer and administrator with expertise in examination security, test administration and branch and zonal office management.

The council said he had also contributed to technological and administrative improvements, including stronger security features in printing operations, facial-recognition biometric attendance systems and the delivery of achievement tests through computer-based examinations.

A New Chapter for WAEC

The appointments place two experienced WAEC officials at the centre of the council’s leadership, with Dangut taking responsibility for the organisation’s operations across its member countries and Kum leading its Nigeria National Office.

Their new roles come as WAEC continues to expand the use of technology in examination administration, improve examination security and modernise services for candidates, schools and other stakeholders.
